During rebuilding a classic car you will face many challenges and
have to make many decisions.
Should a part be restored or can you buy a new part or would you
upgrade for a newer solution introduced in a later model?
The Morgan 4/4 is still in production and the Morgan Motor Company
is still offering parts for almost all versions during its 75 years
lifetime.
I decided to restore most of the old parts where it was possible,
but I replaced some of the later solutions for better
drivability and safety. The following were the main upgrades.

-
Gearbox from 4 to 5-speed, Ford T9.
- Change to
BGH gearbox 'long 1st and 2nd'
-
New Rearend 4.1:1*
(the old were 3.68:1)
- Telescopic shock absorbers
-
New steering gear with Gemmer steering box
-
Brake assistance
-
Bigger clutch 215mm
-
Side mirrors with extension from nineteen sixties.
More beautiful than the Morgan original

-
Very small extension of the luggage room
for two umbrellas
*Rearend: New 4.1:1 ratio from
Spicer Axles Australia. Former Australian BTR Engineering, former
Borg Warner 9 Bolt Rearend. Few years back Borg-Warner was
bought out by Dana Corp. and the rears are still produced by Dana
today in the same BTR factory under the name "Spicer Axles Australia". |
